One of mine too. Even the man was upset. They aren't real easy to get either & they really add a touch of flair to a flock. She was a good layer too! The flock balance is now off. Too many young flighty girls & not enough calm balanced older girls. It may sort itself out in another day or two but just now the lunatics are running the asylum & that's not good for any of us.

I agree. You need the calm ones in a mixed flock. Obviously I'm fond of Hattie. And a little proud since she took care of business the other day. (Not really, I hope to never see that again.) Hattie is so diligent when watching for predators it's amazing and until the other day was a rock in the flock.

Oh, no quibbles here! I was very proud of Hattie. When the placid ones step up it has such a salutary effect on the whole flock! When they speak the flock listens! And she seems to have done the job. In some ways they exert even more authority than an alpha because they exercise their authority so seldomly.

Hepzibah has busily been reasserting herself with Luna.
Luna was not being all that accommodating.
Everyone was roosting in the big coop tonight.

Ha'penny was roosting with the BRs.
That's something of a novelty. Normally they don't tolerate Ha'penny @ all.

Morrigu spent the afternoon upending herself in a stump chasing bugs but I tossed Beatha up between her & Medh @ roosting because I don't like anyone roosting all alone.

Our new normal: 11 girls on that top rail.​

No, they pretty much do what they want...but it's worth a try or maybe it's just wasted effort!

Yeah, that's pretty much the reaction I get...she's talking to me, she must have a treat for me...nope no treat...I don't have time to waste if I'm not going to get a treat...I think I'll just go have a dust bath or maybe I'll peck one of my sisters...bok bok bok...
