Ribh's D'Coopage

Oh. My. Goodness. I have new girls arriving on Friday! I can't quite believe this is happening so quickly. The only thing Natasha doesn't have right now are aracaunas so...2 Japanese bantams ~ a splash & a birchen; 2 frizzle bantams that I think she said were Belgian, 2 silver laced Wyandottes. She does have aracaunas in the incubator but that is a wait. Starting to get excited.🥰

Great; I hope they like it! Apparently it’s not necessarily about calcium absorption in the hen, but more about formation of the eggshell where manganese is critical.
Thanks, Michelle. This is the sort of stuff I'm really bad @. :D

Yes. The flock as a whole seems to be doing ok but Luna is much more vocal than normal & setting the flock screeching. I've been out to check on them once already this morning & they seem more settled but Luna is definitely not herself emotionally. She's always been the calmest, most laid back of birds but she's definitely upset @ the moment.
Hugs to you and Luna. I hope you are both feeling better soon. :hugs

I'm about to contact someone who does frizzled Wyandottes. :D Those should be interesting! She also has Aracaunas. I'm still waiting to hear from my Campine breeder so I'm considering options just now. There is an Aracauna breeder up near Gympie, where my mum lives, & I was thinking I could pick up some birds from her when I go visit my mum. She has wheatans & Lavenders & they look to be good birds ~ which probably means they are also pricey. 🙄
Perhaps you could get some day old chicks for your broodies.

Just a thought .

She really is quite special. Funny how some animals decide you are ok from the get go & bond. Others... not so much. Wrold doesn't really like me :lau
They each have their own distinct personalities...I bet Wrold loves you, she's just good at hiding it...;)
Sounds like Wrold is a bit tsundere. Acts all tough and uncaring on the outside but is actually sweet and lovable on the inside. 😉

All my big girls are back on deck.
Hepzibah has busily been reasserting herself with Luna.
Luna was not being all that accommodating.
Everyone was roosting in the big coop tonight.

Ha'penny was roosting with the BRs.
That's something of a novelty. Normally they don't tolerate Ha'penny @ all.

Morrigu spent the afternoon upending herself in a stump chasing bugs but I tossed Beatha up between her & Medh @ roosting because I don't like anyone roosting all alone.

Our new normal: 11 girls on that top rail.
That's a particularly lovely shot of Morrigu. 😍

You could enter that one in Picture of the Week!

So exciting Ribh! Congratulations! :clap:ya

I hope they integrate well and are all that you hope for your flock and more. How old are they? Point of lay?

As @BY Bob says, getting new friends helps with losing the old.
When a beloved pet passes and you adopt a new one I often think it is like a band aid. The wound of loss is still there but it covered over and hurts a little less. The distraction and bonding with the new family member also helps. :hugs

Young pullets. I could have chicks but there's those darned roosters!
