Ribh's D'Coopage

Okay, so update on eggs! I have four new layers :celebrate
All three from middles group has started... Lilly started at 20 weeks.. Goosie started a few days ago.. and Big Mak (she’s huge!) started today.. they are 22 weeks now.. and tiny Tunie (Petunia) one of my Cochins started yesterday at 18 weeks! Smallest egg I’ve ever seen and SOOOOOO cute! I wish pics would show the size difference but it’s hard to tell...
The top row are from my original gals minus Claire’s.. she is on strike ... and the bottom row from left are... Petunia, Lilly, Goosie, and Mak.... Mak dropped hers at my feet today and at first all the gals went in for attack as they thought I dropped them a treat.. you should have seen their reaction when they realized it was an egg :gig... So cute! Glad I’m not the only one receiving mini eggs; I’m going to give my two little “specials” to a cute little one who does a lemonade stand at the market. At least you know who the mama is! I still haven’t figured out who is laying in my meat Tractor. Is that a quarter or nickel? Phone is small...

@Ribh the tiles look amazing! Your boy is doing a lovely job on them. I actually enjoy tiling, it’s very relaxing to me for some reason.

I have some great news on the prolapse front, it has stayed in for tow days straight. I skipped the evening torturing of the poor chicken, but will still be giving her a morning lube with the Preparation H today, as we will be out most of the day.

For our house the footings were all poured and I hope to have some pictures up this evening. Exciting stuff watching concrete dry when it’s been almost two years waiting for it. Sunday we will be taking all the support rails holding the rebar ties in place off. And hopefully begin the foundation walls on Monday. There was, of course, a huge blow out with FIL first thing in the morning, but I am trying... oh so hard, to make nice.

Today is day seven for my eggs and I hope to candle either tonight or tomorrow night. Chickie Hawks babies are not as heavy as I was hoping for the boys, but I’m still hoping for a somewhat marketable product. @rjohns39 do you candle? And when? You’ve got so much more hatching experience than I do.

Thanks! And it is a quarter...
So happy for your footings! That MUST be very exciting! Ooohhh, the “in-laws” :barnie.... we sometimes call em... the “OUT-LAWS”...:D

He's something of a perfectionist ~ which in this case is a good thing! :) I love the big tiles.

Very good news indeed! That poor girl was lucky to land in your hands.

That is sooo exciting. I hope this means things are sorting out. Two years is a long time in a van.

I'm an in~law these days. :( I try very hard but I'm sure my DILs think I'm quite mad...

Kris, yes I candle and I'm horrible at it. Although as of today I prefer day 8/9 over day 7. The veining is much more visible. This is day 9.

Afternoon, Bob. :frow That is great news about your feed! I was under the impression you already had turkeys...:hmm Must pay more attention...;)
I do have turkeys, I can't start day olds without good feed. Come spring I'll be working on Ducks and Turkey's early on.

We have chicken issues ~ & I thought the cats were bad! Cat issues mean the lads fighting over my body & who gets to sleep on me when ~ none of which is particularly convenient though it did mean I fell warmly asleep to the thunk of a cricket ball last night. Any other Aussies suffering from *the Ashes*?

Anyway, the girls are now vying for my attentions & it is causing issues. The Favorelles are *people chickens.* Any time I am out & about they are pressed up against the fence talking to me & trying their best to reach me ~ which is kinda sweet but having them underfoot means nothing gets done & hence we have fences! The fence is disintegrating fast & so their free time has been restricted to when I can be outside with them because if I am there butter wouldn't melt & everyone is as good as gold. If I disappear it is only a matter of time until Pebbles or Suyin did a hole & go under & the Campines go over! Then we play chicken round up ~ though these days all I have to do is show the meal worm cup & everyone hurtles back over the fence to where they belong. Can't miss out!!:lau

Yesterday Ha'penny was eyeing me off as she scrambled onto the roof of the little pen. She knows I'll get up & scold her but yesterday I was unravelling Tunisian [I'm still trying to figure out how one looses so many stitches in the course of just one row!:idunno] & trying to figure out where to pick up again with the yarn @ the right end of the needle... I swear, I'm directions dyslexic! So I wasn't paying her all that much attention. I know when I'm being had. So over she comes. Waits till I get up then squats & lets me pick her up!:pop Next it was Pebbles. Under the fence, waits to be noticed, squats & lets me pick her up. Thankfully Suyin couldn't get through the hole!

The girls know the sound of the food bin being opened & congregate @ the end of the run to issue all sorts of advice on how much food actually needs to be doled out, then hurtle frantically down to the gate to prevent easy access into the run. Ha'penny & Suyin have both taken to flying up & attempting to land in the food container while I wrestle with the gate. Yesterday I dropped the tub. *sigh*

I then grab my small container & settle with Lottie, who waits expectantly. She knows I will get to her & she can eat in peace. Lottie gets special treatment for one reason ~ & one reason only: she is tiny. Everyone else is of a size & disposition to fight for their share of the food but Lottie can't compete. If I sit with her I know she is getting a full crop of good tucker, not just the leftover dregs but Suyin is peeved about this & has taken to terrorising Lottie around the run. Lottie is quick so no damage has been done but the special treatment is not sitting well with that girl.

I am still putting out multiple feed stations ~ @ least 2 ~ sometimes 3...but the Favorelles & Campines, Lavender, Lottie & Pebbles would all rather eat out of my hands ~ & now Lavender, who is just starting to lay regularly, is starting to assert herself & the pecking order is shifting. Watching her face of with Suyin is a sight to behold!
