Ribh's D'Coopage

We have chicken issues ~ & I thought the cats were bad! Cat issues mean the lads fighting over my body & who gets to sleep on me when ~ none of which is particularly convenient though it did mean I fell warmly asleep to the thunk of a cricket ball last night. Any other Aussies suffering from *the Ashes*?

Anyway, the girls are now vying for my attentions & it is causing issues. The Favorelles are *people chickens.* Any time I am out & about they are pressed up against the fence talking to me & trying their best to reach me ~ which is kinda sweet but having them underfoot means nothing gets done & hence we have fences! The fence is disintegrating fast & so their free time has been restricted to when I can be outside with them because if I am there butter wouldn't melt & everyone is as good as gold. If I disappear it is only a matter of time until Pebbles or Suyin did a hole & go under & the Campines go over! Then we play chicken round up ~ though these days all I have to do is show the meal worm cup & everyone hurtles back over the fence to where they belong. Can't miss out!!:lau

Yesterday Ha'penny was eyeing me off as she scrambled onto the roof of the little pen. She knows I'll get up & scold her but yesterday I was unravelling Tunisian [I'm still trying to figure out how one looses so many stitches in the course of just one row!:idunno] & trying to figure out where to pick up again with the yarn @ the right end of the needle... I swear, I'm directions dyslexic! So I wasn't paying her all that much attention. I know when I'm being had. So over she comes. Waits till I get up then squats & lets me pick her up!:pop Next it was Pebbles. Under the fence, waits to be noticed, squats & lets me pick her up. Thankfully Suyin couldn't get through the hole!

The girls know the sound of the food bin being opened & congregate @ the end of the run to issue all sorts of advice on how much food actually needs to be doled out, then hurtle frantically down to the gate to prevent easy access into the run. Ha'penny & Suyin have both taken to flying up & attempting to land in the food container while I wrestle with the gate. Yesterday I dropped the tub. *sigh*

I then grab my small container & settle with Lottie, who waits expectantly. She knows I will get to her & she can eat in peace. Lottie gets special treatment for one reason ~ & one reason only: she is tiny. Everyone else is of a size & disposition to fight for their share of the food but Lottie can't compete. If I sit with her I know she is getting a full crop of good tucker, not just the leftover dregs but Suyin is peeved about this & has taken to terrorising Lottie around the run. Lottie is quick so no damage has been done but the special treatment is not sitting well with that girl.

I am still putting out multiple feed stations ~ @ least 2 ~ sometimes 3...but the Favorelles & Campines, Lavender, Lottie & Pebbles would all rather eat out of my hands ~ & now Lavender, who is just starting to lay regularly, is starting to assert herself & the pecking order is shifting. Watching her face of with Suyin is a sight to behold!
:th... aren’t they such a complicated bunch.. !? You can go from this :barnie to this :D to this :rant to this :love to this :he to this :hugsto this  to this :lau in a span of 5 minuets! They are something else! But I love em!

@WhoDatChick that's exactly what it's like! But with only three, i spen a lot of time in love mode :love

Sorry I missed so many messages. My notifications went awry and it was a hectic 6-day week.

The tiles look fantastic, so do the stormy photos.

Really enjoyed reading your chickens shenanigans @Ribh you must be laughing or tearing your hair out all day!

The news from my coop is that Mary has started laying again :yesss: she produced her first egg since March yesterday and another one today! So you guys were right all along: she wasn't retired, just on long service leave. Her's is the "white" one.

Now I'm waiting patiently for my first three egg day...

Hooray for Mary... and you! She was molting is why she wasn’t laying or was she done molting but still not laying..? Claire (Barnevelder) has stopped laying but for no apparent reason .. does anyone know why they do this? She is only one and not molting... and it hasn’t even been as hot as normal here.. we are having a strange summer... maybe it’ll snow again this year :fl

Mary was molting for a couple of months and then she was on winter holiday after that.

I'm hoping for a three-egg day soon, but now it seems Sandy is on holiday :barnie it's been three days since her last egg and that's unusual. She's a 5-6 a week kimd of girl. I thought maybe she's egg bound but she's eating well, scratching, running around, dust bathing... But they had a stressful week with lots of coop time while I was at the office, so maybe that's put her off?

see. :) We told you so! :lau
Alerts are always dodgy I find. How's the car hunting going?

Evening folks :frow

I'm not sure what's going on with the weather here, but my girls are largely on strike and feathers everywhere. We would see more than 20 eggs per day when they were in full lay, now we're down to 2-4 eggs per day. They've never stopped this early before, I fear it's suggesting we're in for a bad winter.
