Ribh's D'Coopage

I'm not sure what sort of tick you have @Marie2020. Our most dangerous ones are paralysis ticks. As you can see on Luna they get in really hard to remove places. I had a cat who always got them on the rim of his eyelid. Ever try removing a tick from a cat's eyelid? It can't be done. A little vaseline or similar smothers the tick. They can't breath & immediately begin backing out of their victim & eventually just drop off dead. I've never heard ours pump all their venom into their victim before dropping off. I have heard the opposite but can't say for certain. I'd check with your wildlife people. All I know is I've saved lots of animals this way. Using tweezers you're likely to squeeze the tick & that will put venom in the victim.
Different kind of tick. I have deer ticks that carry Lyme disease to pets and people. Including me.

My black broody~balls are terribly cute but quite mad.

They are generating quite some heat in there.

Are there any eggs under there?

Ooops. Sorry, you did say Olivia has one.
I had to go into the archive for a tax photo.

Yep. Olivia usually seems to have a single egg under her while everyone else cuddles up. She seems to be the head honcho of this particular group.
I was just talking to a chook family about your Olivia, and how she is a frizzled D’Uccle. They were most impressed, they have frizzles and D’Uccles but not a hybrid of the two!

Coconut oil on your cat?! Why? Mine would shred me if I even thought about doing that. Are you sure it isn't toxic to cats?

Also Epsom salts give cats diarhhea if they injest them - safe on wounds etc. but you need to prevent the cat from licking it all. I don't think it is toxic to cats just gives you a clean-up job.
There were no accidents, I left the doors open so he could let me know if he needed to get out. He is looking glamorous today all clean.

When I came into my living room the dog was wrapped around him, I couldn't get my phone awake quickly enough too catch this lovely scene 🐱🐶

I've got to go out but when I get back I will find & link you to the chooks I treated for ticks.
Thank you.

I am so ashamed I didn't know this. I found a black bird a few years ago she was just ridged, I could see she was still alive.
I brought her home too see if I could revive her as it was searing hot . There was a tick in her neck I removed it and she immediately died. I was devastated and hated myself for being so dumb

In the box next to Alpia was Luna.
I was super pleased to see her looking her usual calm self.

Then I noticed this.
It is wedged down between her comb & her head & I think it is a paralysis tick!🤢

These are the devil to get out but I learnt a trick when I had a cat who would always get ticks on his eyelids. Ever tried removing a tick from a cat's eyelid? It can't be done. So a bit of vaseline, or in this case, Black Ointment, to smother it & they will start backing out on their own before dying.

We have been having a bad start to the tick season having had rain when we shouldn't & hens are pretty good about cleaning them up usually but I have never seen this before! 🙄

I'm starting to feel quite defeated.
Everyone should be taught this from a very early age and reminded through the lives.

Thank you :hugs

What is the black ointment?
