It is almost Wednesday here so I'm getting in early as I will be running around a lot tomorrow.

Another tea that shows my tea pet, especially for Ribh.

I have a question ACM: I was looking @ tea pets on Etsy [thinking ahead to Christmas] because both my DILs are tea drinkers & what I need to know is do they come with a stand or would I need to buy one separately. They seem to be considerably more expensive than the pets themselves.

What is the stand for? I thought they just sat on the tray and got doused in tea.

No, they don't come with a stand.
I bought this one separately.

The stand is so you can pour the tea over the tea pet and it then drains away without getting your other tea things or table wet.

This stand came with my blue tea set.
The grating is made of bamboo and the bottom of the tray is plastic.

Before I had the stand for my tea pet, I just had him on a saucer or shallow bowl next to my cup.

And why do you pour tea on the tea pet?

And why do you pour tea on the tea pet?
To "feed" them. 😇

Really it is just a fun way to use up the first wash of the leaves and the dregs of the cup and pot. Eventually the tea will leave a patina on the pet and form a kind of glaze.

It is part of the tea ceremony and, I think, for me anyway, helps with mindfulness and being present in the moment as you sip your tea.
