Thanks, MJ & Lozzy. So long as they don't confuddle me with scientific jargon I will manage. My girls, whom I homeschooled through high school, used to ask why history & science weren't taught the way I taught it. The answer is probably more because I was interested in making it interesting & exciting & generating a love for the subject rather than strict accuracy. I always figured that could come later when it was studied as a pure discipline.

How is Beatha going these days Ribh?

She is quite high up the pecking order these days. Only Luna & Ha'penny are above her. She still tends to be something of a loner but is not picked on by anyone. And you'd never know Sif had been so ill. She scoots round as fast as anyone these days.

I do love your lot. They never fail to make me smile.

They're raving lunatics. Last night Chavi was happy enough for me to pick her up for bed & perch on my fingers but kept flying back to the perch. We had about 6 goes before she conceeded defeat & roosted where she was meant to.

Both the Smithsonian article and the abstract are jargon-light and it is an intuitive topic (particularly if you have cats).

I like Beatha too. She's a very low maintainance, self`sufficient hen.

As for Sif, I think it was a stress problem, perhaps combined with a vitamin deficency.Amongst the Vorwerks she was the youngest & her hatch mate was the one we lost early on, so combined with the move & being on the outer with her sisters I think she majorly stressed.
