Ribh's D'Coopage

I have no issues with a dog that barks, but then shuts up... incessant barking though is a whole other matter. I expect to be greeted by some barking, but also expect it to stop in a reasonable amount of time, and not to happen unless I’m actually on the dog’s property! Sidewalks and public places should be bark-free zones, and people should put more effort into training their pets.

Of course I also listen to my 7 boys crowing at each other, hikers, and just for the fun of it all-day-long... They are currently going into full “defense” mode at some Robins and finches. But we are a half hour minimum walk from any public land, and we are zoned agricultural, so if they annoy anyone then :tongue you shouldn’t be trespassing anyway!

I *just* figured out the time differences here, @rjohns39 and @WhoDatChick are two or three hours ahead of me... it all makes better sense now! For a bit there I was thinking you were just exceptionally early risers  I don’t math so good... that’s how I keep losing track of how many chickens I have and “accidentally” getting more ;)

Google is great @ sorting out my inability to do the math time zones thing. I don't mind a rooster's crow but for some reason I have a very low tolerance for barking dogs. I do expect to be greeted by barks if I'm on your property ~ especially if the dog doesn't know me ~ but I also expect the owner to shut it up ~ & the dog to obey! Owners of small dogs are the worst!:he They seem to think their pets are too adorable to train or something. I have a great relationship with the cattle dog on one side of us. He has beautiful manners & is very well trained. The other side breed some sort of terriers... *sigh* :rantThey go out & the dogs yap the whole time they're gone ~ though they have very kindly penned them on the far side of their property. For a while they had them where they could see the chooks & no~one was happy.:( We are considered weird. We have cats instead. And chooks. Mustn't forget the chooks. :gig

I 1000% agree!!!! There is nothing worse than a barking dog ... if I have one that barks continuously.. they promptly get a shock collar!! The ones we have now are manageable... lucky for them!
When our kiddies were little we had a Dally for a while. She was a really lovely dog. Great with the children & a great protector as they roamed the scrub but when we lost her [paralysis tick] I said never again. I don't have the time to train a dog really well & an untrained animal annoys me.

I take care to keep my cats as under control as possible ~ them being cats & all ;)~ they're inside before dark & usually they don't roam far from home but we were having something of a *white night* last night & in his wanderings John left the front door ajar & of course Kirby escaped & wouldn't come so he had a night outside & is very sheepish this morning! Ditto the chooks. They weren't being good girls & now everyone is penned!:lau

I feel your pain... 10 years working at Whole Foods, having to tell people that they can’t have their dogs in the grocery store, no... not even if you carry them, or if they are in your purse!

Cats are awesome! Of my three Whisper is trained to sit, stay, and shake a paw... they all more or less have sit and down mastered, they just occasionally they decide to ignore me. I also leash trained them... they don’t love it, but that’s how they get their outside time. I have to get them up to my trailer soon, I miss them too much! Also my mother is spoiling them and ruining their training. They bully her and she gives them too much people food :(

I hear you. John pretty much feeds Kirby every time he walks past him just because Kirby squawks @ him.:barnie He has John well trained.:smackHe doesn't pull that stunt on me.

We had a huge issue when the boats first decided dogs travelling with them had to be muzzled. Owners were up in arms! Never mind the dog fights, the uncontrollable sniffers, the growlers & biters when Buses & trains won't even let you bring a dog on board unless it's a service dog. I wonder about people sometimes. None of us wants to be micro managed but common sense should tell you lots of dogs in a confined space with small children & oldies is not a good mix.
