Ribh's D'Coopage

Well just colour me surprised!

I think a second roost may be needed. Sometimes you have to work around their personalities.
There are two high roosts plus one of the original (very low) roosts in there at the moment. Pepper is occupying the back one and Tsuki the front one. Deana would occasionally join Tsuki on the roost in the "small " coop but hasn't tried it yet in the "big" coop. :(

Perhaps they just need time to get used to the new arrangements.

Ok, I went outside to let my big girls out into the run. They are still cooped & will be for some time. There was a large white bellied sea eagle looking to mantle in the tree branches above the run. Yes, she already had a prey [ a small mammel from the looks which is unusual, they usually scoop mullet from the surface of the bay], but no need to encourage her by showing her easy meals.

These are our 2nd largest raptors with a wing span of over 7' & reaching a weight of nearly 10lb. We do have wedge tailed eagles but we rarely see them over our island. The sea eagles are fairly common & honk like a goose & they are incredibly messy eaters so I'd as soon she ate elsewhere.

They are common as dust round here but no less spectacular for that & just as dangerous. The girls will be having a quiet coop day I think. Better safe than sorry.

This would be the last thing on your mind with the safety of your girls at stake, but I don't suppose you took a picture of the sea eagle? 🙏😉

Sorry ACM, it was barely light so the eagle was more shadow & shape than a well defined bird & I didn't happen to have my camera on me. I was put out as I really wanted to know what she'd caught. It was quite big but not a fish.

Hi again! That was quite the catchup read...

I read every post I can, fully. Sometimes I miss some of the videos because of Data shortages, but I usually revisit them as soon as it resets.

Happy belated birthday @Shadrach!

I’ve been a bit busy and not on as much as I’d like to be...
Thanks Kris.

I agree with that!

Now that I have all five of mine in the "big" coop it seems way too small. They would be pretty much shoulder to shoulder with just 3 on a perch.
X3 My lowest ranking new girls weren't able to roost until everyone moved into the big coop.

Poor darling, that looks really uncomfortable. :hugs

She'll be laughing later on when she's finished moulting and everyone else has just started!
No~ones laying & 1 or 2 others look a tad moth eaten so I guess everyone's about to start.
