Thankfully Lavender doesn't seem depressed. She's a funny chook. Her molt doesn't really seem to be bothering her half as much as it's bothering me. I don't like seeing my girls such a mess.It took poor Fudge over a month to get herself right when she moulted last year.
She was seriously depressed.
Has she gone off her regular feed? Most of the hens here when they have a heavy moult go foraging and eat much less of the commercial feed. I've tried to see what it is they eat. They all forage in particular areas so something grow/lives in these areas they think they need.Thankfully Lavender doesn't seem depressed. She's a funny chook. They get a lot of forage time during the day. About mid~day the outside girls ask for access to the pen & feed @ the treadle feeder. Lavender hasn't been joining them, preferring to stay in the run & forage. Last night she preferred rice & veggies [more rice than anything] over her regular feed & she was prepared to fight for it.Has she gone off her regular feed? I've noticed one bug and two roots and that's it so far.![]()
How are the chicks doing?Knock has started laying eggs again and that means full time care of her three chicks is over.
She's also roosting on the perch again so the chicks are on their own in the nest box.

They're all alive and that's a result here. Bracket I found wandering about outside my house this evening which is most unusual. I think she's looking for a nest site and if she's got this far away from her coop and tribe I'm going to have to keep an eye on her.How are the chicks doing?
Sounds like a good result. They're all alive and that's a result here. Bracket I found wandering about outside my house this evening which is most unusual. I think she's looking for a nest site and if she's got this far away from her coop and tribe I'm going to have to keep an eye on her.
They all look very healthy and Knocks are staying close to the rest of the tribe. Notch isn't all that on the father front. He doesn't bug them but he doesn't take much interest in them either.
I love how your birds interact and seeing your videos is always entertaining. That's great that she spends time with everyone. Thanks, Sue. Yeah, watching new friendships form is fascinating ~ especially with Lottie who has been a little chook in a big, big world all on her own for as long as I've had her. Suddenly there's all these new girls who are more or less her size ~ though she is still the smallest! She is spending equal amounts of time with the newbies & the Oldies.
