My Claire is always off by herself.. never with anyone.. she has always been on the bottom and now she has the middles and the babies the run after and peck on.. so at this rate she will always be alone.. but she always wants cuddles from me

Interesting. I put the girls in early ~ rain coming & it is expletive cold out there! Double treats: Lettuce & a little corn. I wanted to see who would come & eat from my hand. The old girls, naturally, Lottie of course, one of the Favorelles [Suyin] & Patricia! I may have to eat my words here.

We've had some excitement around here. My Livestock Guardian Dog managed to impale his right rear inner thigh on something a couple nights ago. Don't know what but suspect something metal about an inch wide and razor thin.

He's grounded until the 10th. The wound had no debris in it just a lot of fur. Vet pulled out as much as she could but couldn't get it all and stapled him back together. He hates his leash, definitely hates the cone and hates being grounded.

He's on two Antibiotics and one anti-inflammatory. He's convinced he's being punished for something and whines terribly.

In other news I'm setting eggs to sell my first set of mailed day old chicks.

Candling Day 7 looks to have 130 developing. Which is good as first order is for 80.

In all honesty I would have a very dull flock without my Campines. I love my girls. For the most part they are docile & sweet natured. The Campines add that touch of spice ~ & they are nutters to boot. Ha'penny [I can only tell because she has the blue lobes & is slightly larger] has been laying for a while. Her first couple of eggs she dropped haphazardly in the coop, pointy end first, so the shell was cracked but the membrane wasn't broken. OK. She's got better & these days I find her eggs in a nesting box.

Yesterday I found her sister, Tuppence, in a nesting box when I went to collect eggs. She was a little spooked when I lifted the lid but didn't flee screaming. She was in there for absolute ages but when I was finally able to check ~ no egg. OK. Practice run. It happens. Nope. I found her egg beside the gate when I called the girls in, dropped casually as she hopped out the door. Guess I'm lucky it was intact. Obviously egg laying was keeping her from more important things!
