Ribh's D'Coopage

Is there such a thing as overkill on feeding stations? I was thinking more is always better for keeping birds happy.
Nope! I have 5 stations down for the evening feed & still hand feed Lottie plus maybe Lavender & the Campines. She who controls the food holds the power ~ & both the BAs & BRs know it! I supervise fairly closely to ensure everyone gets a feed.

2/7 hatched! there was one more that made it to almost hatching, but I lost it. The other 4 eggs were fairly early quitters (I check all my unhitched eggs) they are smaller than the others though. Guess which two are the Black Copper Marans? :p I think I’ve got a boy and a girl, but it’s too early to tell...

I’m going to try and get more photos of them individually soon!
Can I bet on the black ones being Marans? I really have no idea, not ever doing the chick thing so very ignorant of how anyone looks @ this stage.

Squeeeeeee! Adorable!!

Yes, the little black two are my BCMs... so far they haven’t been picked on too badly despite the size and collie differences. I am a little worried about keeping the heatplate going on just my batteries... but so far so good, and with 29 chicks I’m hoping they will huddle some for Heat. I’m turning the plate off during the day as we have been in the mid 30’s the past two days. I need to buy some more solar panels. :hmm

After months of planning & scrimping & gathering together our 1st sandstone paver was laid this morning. The man is a stone mason/brickie by trade; the lad worked in landscaping between fishing jobs. Between them they have a fair idea of what needs doing.

This is as far as he got today. The man will have to cut in all the funny ones.

The girls were vastly entertained. So much happening. The lad couldn't believe how interested they were ~ nor the running commentary! :lau

As no~one is allowed to walk on the pavers yet [tell that to my cats] It was an interesting exercise getting the girls fed & watered & bedded down for the night.
