I'm sorry to hear it. I assumed she was back on the lay again.

If I didn't know how careful you are with their diet, I'd say something about protein. Surely she's getting her fair share of the food. I know you're careful about that too. I hope the nutridrench (?) gets her back on her feet. I was giving Mary one ham slice a day for a few weeks, in addition to her normal diet, and I think perhaps it boosted her along a bit.

No. She hasn't laid in months & no sign she will any time soon. Nugget [her sister] is still laying sporadically but it is winter. I may try a little ham. That I can get!

I've had roosters. Never again. It's like inviting the mafia to stay. Besides, it would make both lots of neighbours very unhappy...

Maybe Vinnie Barbarino will be one of the good guys? I have a friend who tells of a good rooster called Olaf who was easily handled, fairly quiet, and protective of his hens when the chips were down.

Folks, If you want to give them a boost, cheap canned salmon or mackerel and a boiled egg yolk are your friends.

Juice and all. Loaded with the right vitamins, as well as omega 3 and 6 and the egg yolk has the perfect balance of amino acids. Still follow the 10% rule and consider it a treat.
