Ribh's D'Coopage

I actually love traveling now, even if it’s not for pleasure... thanks to Brother-in-law we had to make several overnight town trips, or for things like picking up farm equipment. Hotels are glorious places with running water, comfy beds, and properly flushing toilets, not to mention WiFi. I can now settle in and relax at a hotel more naturally than anywhere else.

Before we got so heavily into the chickens Andrew went to a convention in the city. I tagged along just for the hotel! I didn’t leave the room except to go to the complimentary breakfast, the hot tub, and dinner (even then I didn’t have to leave the hotel!) we did do the full tourist thing when we went to Seattle for a talk by Temple Grandin. Absolutely amazing... if you ever have the chance to see her speak in person, Take it! And her books are excellent.
Never'eardov'er. So I looked her up. What a fascinating lady. Now I shall have to find her books. I have a better view & make better coffee than most hotels I've stayed @~ but then I'm no longer living in a 25 foot caravan either.:hmm

And the movie that @WhoDatChick mentioned is pretty good as well... I’m not usually a huge fan of most biographical movies, but this is a good one.

And yes, it’s mostly the current living arrangements that have made me so happy a traveler. I’m really rather a homebody, and would rather stay in my neighborhood and putter around in my garden back when we were in our house in the city. Now I have neither house, nor gardens, so anywhere with a real bed and running water seems like a paradise. (It doesn’t even need to be a nice hotel! Just basically clean with a decent bed)

Every year I travel for work, sometimes near, sometimes far, ocassionally not at all (yes!!). I'm a homebody too, so I always feel mightily inconvenienced and rather shirty. In my opinion, the small boutique type of hotel is the perfect antidote. There's a family run hotel in Leicester in the UK where they rremember my face, name, and preferences (without being asked, they bring fresh skim milk so I can make tea Immediately after checking in). There's a tiny Hilton in Sydney I've used twice this year and it's delightful. These little places are cheaper and I think, much better. They don't have pools, gyms, etc, but I'm always too busy for that stuff anyway. I also like staying in colleges when the rooms are available. So cheap, so good! My favourite college is Goodenough College in the heart of London. Used to be only £50 a night but then they renovated, so it was £100 last time I stayed, but that's still amazing value for London. Anyway, speaking of work...

How goes the paver install @Ribh? I missed your pic of them the other day and just saw what an amazing job your guys are doing on it. When I did ours I swore off large slabs for life, I love the look of them... but now agree with my father (gasp!) that they are hernia tempting, back breaking, and too difficult to set level. Granted I don’t have you husbands experience, or you boys physique, lol! If I do another patio (wooden deck looks far more likely ATM) I will use smaller slabs or bricks, even if it does look too “busy” to me.
