It sounds like things are working out. It just seems to take a little more time when you have a mix.Beautiful as always!
I could’ve sworn that I smelled baked chicken in the coop today as I did chicken chores... it is SO HOT ... the gals are moving slow and all is very quite...
Things are settling down.. just a bit though.. there are still a few straight up meanies
Last night I was out till roost time so I got to see the happenings... the little flowers were first to roost.. which is new cuz the last I knew they were sleeping on an outside roost.. anyway, they were parked on the roost right smack where everyone comes up the latter.. so face to face was not good for those poor lil things! So I slid the latter much more to the middle so as when everyone enters they may not notice them as much.. I stayed awhile and protected them from the ones who feel they just MUST peck cuz that’s what you’re SUPPOSE to do... right
... but I’m happy they made it up and are sticking it out even though they get beat! I’ll feel much better when they are larger. And Goosie (SS) is too funny.. she is the biggest chicken you ever saw! And I don’t mean large
... she hides in the nest area until everyone gets their spot on the roost then comes out and finds a place
... or is she smart

Oh. How adorable! My girls don't like being cooped up either. They won't lay. Revenge of the chicken!Very chilly this morning, same as you ribh, BoM said feels like 4.2. At my place it was Janet's scrambled eggs on toast and tea for breakfast, yummy! Did I mention there are two cats here at the moment? That's been fun (not) they're very pesky this morning, growling and hissing. Mr Whiskers goes home later this morning. I'll miss him, he's a scamp, but Blossom will be relieved. The chooks had another hard week, mostly cooped up, but they're out in the run for the whole day today and likely tomorrow too. They don't seem to lay as many eggs when they're cooped up. Work has been hard lately, two massive deadlines in the last week, but I'm taking the whole weekend to recuperate, then I'll be catching up on non-urgent but fallen behind work for the next couple of weeks. Then I've got a whole week off early July, yes!

Oh, it looks really great!!I find goodbyes impossibly hard. Middle lad headed off this morning to his own family ~ & not keen to be heading somewhere as cold as S.A is @ the moment. Most of the Fire pit is done. The bits left our youngest boy will help us with.
Kirby christened the area with a deheaded mouse. I tossed the remains in the chook pen & sent the girls demented fighting for possession of the tiny body. ick!
They are out of sorts. Two eggs in the old nesting boxes, 3 in the new, one dropped casually in the pen & nearly buried in the mulch. *sigh*

Not quick. Not clean.Looks awesome! Oh, cats... always leaving their presents for us bad hunters. I can just imagine the tug of war your girls had with the poor thing. I hope Kirby dispatched it cleanly and quickly, but with cats you never know.
