Ribh's D'Coopage

Regular mainland day today. The man left both his glasses & his hearing aide @ home so was cross & crotchety & we couldn't find the door place despite WAZE ~ which sent us in circles. And Because Lincraft has a sale on all the wool I wanted was gone so I needs must buy online ~ which is fine but the postage costs like a wounded bull. *sigh* Not one of our more successful days. However the girls were busy while we were gone: 5 eggs ready & waiting, including Pebbles who I happen to know was bullied of the nest by the favorelles just before we left. She chose another box as with 2 favorelles in one there was no room left over ~ not even for Lottie. I won't call them FAT ~ but they are big girls!

@MaryJanet: Just a thought ~ because I worked the research section of the library for years & my mind works like that : There are heaps of coop design plans to be found on~line & your local library probably has others; may even be worth asking @ your local produce store. Someone may just specialise in local coops without charging the earth ~ like a retired carpenter. I found lots of lovely cheap free designs when we were looking to build. John reckons ours cost just $4oo to build so even paying a tradie you would come out ahead.

It seems like I’m hearing about quite a few people losing chickens this week... well, my friend/neighbor who I gave Kathryn (my bully) to called to tell my she found her dead in the nest box today .. otherwise she was totally fine so we are both perplexed.. maybe egg bound .. So sorry for your loss @WhoDatChick :hugsShe was beautiful, and it seems such a young age to pass.

I hate to add this in, but a few minutes ago I also received “the call” from my Husband. We lost New Girl some time this afternoon/evening. I’m almost certain it is her, anyway... I will know for sure when I get home tomorrow. It seems taking care of everyone, even without the moves, was too much on top of all the BBQ volunteer chores. No one has been getting their ranging time. Eggs are barely being collected.

It just “wasn’t possible” for her to get her hand feedings and supplemental care. Everyday I would make sure she drank and ate, and give her egg mixed with starter, carefully watching to see she got to eat it, and let her out to sit in the sun or the shade as she preferred. I had to lift her back into the barn, as she couldn’t make the 1 foot hop into it. It wasn’t exactly an unexpected loss, I was just hoping to delay it and give her a little more “happy chicken” time before she left.

This has been a bad week for losing chickens indeed. :hit

Wow. I am so sorry. And sad. :hugs It has been a terrible week for chicken keeping.
And in my efforts to perk Namaste up [she goes up & down like a yo~yo] I took a tiny bit of steak out for her & created a shark feeding frenzy wherein I got my hair caught in the wire while the girls went ballistic all around me. Chickens be crazy indeed!

lol My sook, Marlow, likes to sleep cuddled in my arms during winter but if he gets sad or lonely @ night he licks my nose to get me awake so he can tell me all about it!:lau:lau:lau We have issues some nights. I do not appreciated being licked.

My cat, Dr. Zoidberg would take my hand in his mouth and pull on it if I was sleeping and he wanted me for something. He would also ask permission to jump on my desk and visit while I'm working. He is the only cat to ever do that. The rest just jump up on everything.

Oh my. I am so sorry. Hugs for you Kris. :hugsEven if expected it is not easy.

This has been an awful week. Everyone is suffering loss. I offer a group hug to all. :hugs

The only thing I can say is that all the support I got from everyone has made it much easier. Its funny how this little emoji helps so much. :hugs Thank you all.
