Ribh's D'Coopage

It's sad when you try so hard not to be a nuisance to the neighbours! I'm lucky in both lots of neighbours love my chickens ~ but then I never allow them to stay where they don't belong so the neighbours don't really get how little time it takes a chicken to turn a lovely garden into a moonscape! :(

Neighbours who cause trouble for trouble's sake need to get a grip on the truly important things in life!

I really think she was just bored being home with the baby for 2 months. Thankfully she went back to work.

I have really come to the conclusion that those with too much time on their hands just cause trouble.

I'm too busy to care about you and what you do on your own time.
Exactly! I can't figure where they find the time. I'm too busy to worry about anyone else.

I'm also very fortunate to have good neighbours. We are all here for the long term, so we keep it pleasant. When I was renting, I didn't care about the neighbours but I cared about the garden because it was included in the lease and I stood to lose two months rent if the garden was not kept up.

Now things are different because I'm here for the next 40 years at least, and so are the families around me. My nextdoors, Nigel & Nicole, agreed without even taking a beat when I suggested replacing the boundary fence with garage wall, even though it would cost them privacy while the garage is going up. On the other hand, I'll make sure to pay for any landscaping should they need it. And I agreed without turning a hair when they told me about their planned building project. We keep the community functioning as best we can.

Such a shame your neighbour has adopted silence instead of communication @CrazyChookChookLady

Just talk to me. I'm not an animal. Reasonable people can reach a solution without the government getting involved. It seems in today's world no one wants to associate with their neighbors. Simple human courtesy. Stuff like this makes me very sad.

Why most there always be one person to stir the pot?! Warning LONG rant ahead...

I have 1 direct neighbor. It's a young married couple with a new baby. When we first moved in we were very friendly to each other, then suddenly one day the wife no longer talked to us. The husband still did. Now that they have the baby we rarely see them and just exchange cordial hellos now, with the husband only.

This weekend my landlord received a letter in the mail stating I was out of compliance with my chickens. It stated that the chickens are often off my property and have caused damage to the neighbors grass and flowers. It also stated the neighbor spoke to us about this and we did nothing.

It's all just a bunch of lies and twisted truths. My chickens free range when I am outside with them. If they cross the property line, which they do, I am over there chasing them right back over to my side. The wife has been sitting out on her deck when a chicken has wondered over while chasing a bug and I go right after them to bring them back where they belong. She never said ONE WORD to me! I'm most upset that she involved the boro when all she had to say was "keep the chickens off my lawn".

I spoke with the codes office, I explained how my chickens are always in the coops or runs unless I am outside with them. He said what I am doing is fine, I just need to keep them off her yard. I said no problem sir, I'm sorry you were involved in this simple matter.

I don't have to change anything I have been doing, but it sure makes me mad that she is that petty to make things up.

Ok rant over...

Sorry your neighbor is being contrary, in the city I was blessed with amazing neighbors, even though chickens were not permitted I think we could have gotten away with it, maybe not roosters but... just talk to each other! I mean really calling in code enforcement as a first step rather than saying “I’m not ok with your chickens crossing this imaginary boundary they don’t even know is there”? Are you awfully urban? And do you know if you’re in a fence in or fence out state? Not that it really matters in the ‘burbs :(

^^^ X2!

Just beautiful. I see Chinese dragons.

That’s exactly what I saw first, too! Head shape and the long bodies from the New Years parade in Chinatown!
Vancouver has a very rich Asian culture.

:eek:the coop wishes thread I started days and days ago is featured. I hope it gets more posts of great ideas, so far it's been very informative :pop

Congratulations!!! It developed into quite the informative post, and everyone managed to be polite, not argue, or get into any major disputes in it! That’s a rarity, and it didn’t even get distracted!
