The best parts of the media are the international fact checking services. The Conversation does some fact checking in the UK, US and Australia. It only uses accredited expertise to do so and the experts' interpretations are then reviewed by another expert who writes a short report to condone or argue. I have found these specific fact checks to be rational, thorough, and calm.

I read a couple of UK based fact check sites. I'll check the one you mention out.

From what I've seen [which isn't much because I rarely watch t.v so I may not have enough data for an accurate assessment] I haven't been overly impressed ~ though it depends on the topic. Some things seem beautifully impartial, others I detect bias, which always makes my hackles rise. Maybe I'm just getting old & grumpy

What do you mean "maybe" ?
The mother of our daughters tells me I'm getting grumpier as I get older. I'm very political (don't worry, I won't rant here) and very opinionated. Still, I'm still thinking and questioning and that can't make me a bad man.

I think as we get older our crap-o-meter gets more sensitive as our bullsh*t tanks are reaching capacity...

Me too! But I can’t figure out why they do it. If I disturb them after dark (which I do quite often because I like to make sure they are all tucked in for the night) they all stare down at my boots even though my face is at eye level to them. I have been doing some experiments with my headlamp and they seem to expect light to come from the floor. I think it is because when the sun comes up they see it through their door which is low down. So when I come with my headlamp they expect the light to be coming from there.
