Can't remember who asked for pictures of Lavender's molt @LozzyR @Aussie-Chookmum ???

Anyway here we are:
Bare bum. You can literally see the feathers dropping off her.

@ least the new feathers are coming in but both sides of her neck,
down her chest & her abdomen.

These are harder to see but all down her back we have this...
She's an absolute mess just now. She looks incredibly ratty~tatty & every time she moves hordes of feathers fall of her!

More in the run & blowing all round my yard.

My goodness, poor Lavender! That is a hard moult indeed. I was going to comment on a very red bum but then I noticed she’s purple elsewhere; is that Cetrigen?

Yep. She was feather picking prior to the molt. I was trying to discourage her but I think she had a bad case of the itchies.

Poor darling. I picked up some Cetrigen today and noticed it has on the back of it “Do not use on birds whose eggs are for human consumption”. Well! What are your thoughts on that? (And other people who have used it, such as @MaryJanet ).

Well, she's not laying so I haven't worried about it. @BY Bob is the expert on this stuff. I think he said it wasn't a concern...

He & MaryJanet had quite a discussion about that sort of thing. Not being scientifically inclined I didn't understand most of it.

Interesting to see the pecking order in operation around the food.

Actually Tribe 2 has the most relaxed pecking order of any group I've had here.
Mag always waits and keeps an eye out. Nolia who should eat first isn't that bothered and only pulls rank when there are treats. Bracket will tell you, 'Oh we don't have a pecking order here, we're terribly modern you know'.
Hinge just pecks at anyone who gets in her way.
The chicks are still allowed to crash in when and where.
Young Lock is a bit timid and I have to make sure she gets her share.

Well, she's not laying so I haven't worried about it. @BY Bob is the expert on this stuff. I think he said it wasn't a concern...

He & MaryJanet had quite a discussion about that sort of thing. Not being scientifically inclined I didn't understand most of it.

Then I will have to pick @BY Bob ’s brain!

I used cetrigen on Ivy and she's not laying yet so it wasn't a consideration.

I have a feeling the advice to withhold eggs might be due to the insect repellent in it.

By Bob and I were discussing antibiotic. Cetrigen is antiseptic - some antiseptics are also antibiotic. I'll have to check what its ingredients are.
