Squabs, from my reading, are tiny fish fried & eaten whole: bones, scales, fins & all. So totally gross!

You should! It is a little piece of heaven on earth. BUT, quite difficult to cook perfectly. Bring to full bubbling boil, then turn down to simmer for exactly 3 minutes. YUM!

Yes, I was surprised when I looked it up. I was going to link but I will find the reference @ some point today & quote it. There is always the chance I have misspelt it. I like crosswords but my spelling is chancy@ best so there is that.

Yes, I think a squab is a young pigeon. The fish you eat whole are whitebait.

Yes it is a young pigeon too. I have no idea what whitebait is. I will have to find this quote & check my spelling. No doubt I've dropped a clanger.

Here it's toast buttered & spread with vegemite. You dip your soldiers in the egg yolk ~ which is why they need to be soft boiled.
