Ribh's D'Coopage

Ugh apparently there are lots of snakes around here *shudder* great. I have Wilbur who will chase them and try to play and Jasper who couldn’t care less but I also have Huddie who could be at risk in the paddock
What sorts of snakes.

Interesting, Bob! Cashew (Buff Orp) is super fluffy, but has a smallish body. Based on breed, you’d think she’d be second heaviest to Buttercup. Nope! Not even close.
That is really interesting. I would have assumed they would have the same characteristics being of the same breed only different colors. So I went and pulled the standards used for judging to see.

Weight for females should be 3.40-4.80kg (7.5-10.5lb). Hatties is on the low side if not too small.

Feathers should be close to the body but not right next to the body. Plumage: Fairly profuse but close, not soft, loose and fluffy as in the Cochin, or close and hard as in the Game Fowl.

I guess our girls will not be winning any contests.

It was fun & games for roosting tonight. As my broodies all looked like they were behaving themselves everyone went back into the big coop for supper. Wrold immediately disgraced herself by getting in a nesting box & was promptly hoyed back into the small coop to cogitate her sins. I kept checking on Alpia who always seems @ least 1/2 broody but she was happily socialising & Lavender was showing no inclination to hop into a nesting box.
My small sinners.

When I went out to check the roosting arrangements Lavender already had a corner on the top roost. Good girl, Lavender! Alpia was in a box. 🙄 Alpia is one of my easiest hens & I usually scoop her up one handed so I can manhandle the lid with the other. She doesn't normally fuss, just does a lot of complaining but there are no trust issues & she snuggles in for the short ride. Tonight she must have startled because she suddenly lost her balance & amongst all the scrabbling & flapping she hooked a toe through my right hand ring! She was not happy. I was not happy. It was a very tight fit! I couldn't see to wriggle it out again so brought her inside for the man to see what he could see. Alpia took one look @ his hulk & her toe slid out like magic!😂 She told me all about it as I craddled her back to the small coop to join Wrold. Neither of them was happy but they have each other & both were on the roost.
This is worse than trying to get small kids to go to bed at night!
