Ribh's D'Coopage

I picked up my new glasses while babysitting last week. They have thinned the lenses so I don't need such heavy frames & that means the blind spot on the edge of the frame is not so bad. They've got twiggly hinges too so hopefully my propensity for breaking my goggle eyes while dealing with chickens will be lessened. I'm finding them so much better to work with just because I have much bigger lenses. This growing older lark is no fun @ all! :lau

I like your new glasses 😍

Good for your mom!!! Mothers and fathers are our first teachers! When my daughter was in high school, she would come home and say "Calculus make me happy", yes, this was my daughter, the daughter of a mathematically challenged person... 😂 She obviously got her smarts from her dad! 💞
I so relate to your daughter on that. I remember feeling the exact same way!

No fun at all, I agree. But at least the glasses sound like they are an improvement and they look good too.

They're great Ribh. Glad that they are working better for you. 👍

Fun fact: Apparently the original Orpingtons were also prodigious layers of around 320 eggs per year. That is leghorn like!

Fortunately they were refined for other characteristics. Can you imagine a 12 lb bird that laid 320 eggs per year. True multipurpose chicken. I am amazed they breed that away but they would be very expensive layers on the feed side.
I have not heard that! Super interesting! I got Cashew in hopes she would be sweet and docile, as Orps are known to be and she is. She brought her chicks to my lap. :love

Frankly, one cat less can't be bad thing imo.:p

Her own. I was very upset. I was very close to breaking her neck. She had pecked bits off them and thrown them around the nesting box. It looked like a horror movie. I took two that were barely alive and put them out of their misery, took some very deep breaths and lifted Myth out of the coop.
I felt partly responsible for not having checked earlier but this was in the morning when I let them out.
I buried them all together. I didn't speak to Myth for weeks.
I find the idea that any other creatures apart from humans do malice difficult to believe. I have seen what I would describe as revenge actions often, but they don't result in deaths. I've had to accept that Myth just isn't able to cope with chicks.
Oh my gosh, Shad! I would have been very upset, too. I can't imagine! Thanks for sharing. It just reinforces that I will probably need to intervene next time Millie goes broody.
