Ribh's D'Coopage

Everyone is pretty much behaving this morning.
Aoife went & laid in the hay bale but got straight back in the run.

Poor Wrold.
I mistook her wanting to lay for a broody episode & chucked her out of this nice, deep, ,comfy spot. She dropped her egg in the run...well, if she will constantly go broody on me.
How was I to know? She pancaked, swore @ me & bit me... :idunno

You mean you can't read their minds...:gig They certainly keep you on your toes! :love

I've been thinking about this beautiful girl! How is she doing now Jehane?
I lost her a while back. She just suddenly went down hill. I had to lift her out of the coop in the morning. Went inside for some vitamins & she was gone when I got back to her. :idunno Not really a surprise & I didn't say anything because it is such a downer when someone loses a bird. She was one of my older girls [though not ancient by any means] with a nasty personality so the flock as a whole was more relieved than anything else. Mhari was different. :(

I'm so sorry that I brought it up! You've been through so much with your girls the last couple of months! Mhari's loss broke everyone's heart! :hugs

Poor Wrold. So misunderstood. 😟

Good morning folks :frow

Jeannie, when I go in to refill the feeder, I always toss a scoop of feed in the run... My idea of keeping birds from being under foot. It never works, but I keep trying. Once I'm in the coop, they are all over my feet, some stand on the feed bucket... They may take a bite here and there, but mostly stare or glare at me, and they always have a lot to say. I think I'm being cussed out. At least to me it doesn't sound like endearing chatter. Once the feed and water containers are fully filled, they run out to the run and scarf up the feed I threw out there. So my best guess is they are supervising the refill operations and giving their opinions on my effectiveness. I'm so glad they don't write my performance report :gig

What a spectacular sky:love. Thanks for sharing
Mine do this too! They are all over and underfoot when I go in the run. And if I have their food containers, they peck at the food containers, and generally swarm me.
If I go in with the tell-tale bag of crickets, look out! They try to rip the bag out of my hands!

Yes. I still haven't got the wormer Shad recommended. Everything is taking such ages to arrive ~ though I don't think it would have helped. There was something deeply wrong with that bird. Some loses are more devastating than others & there's no picking it. My older girls are getting on now & losing any of them would leave a terrible gap in the flock. They are the leaders & stabilisers. They are also plain nice hens. This is a lovely flock right now personality wise but I still have 1 or 2 girls that concern me. I've had them vet checked & nothing's showing so :fl. Replacements are really hard to get just now too with the chicken craze Covid has brought on & I'm fussy about who I buy from & the breeds I get.

It's very funny really. They rush towards me super excited, then try to pretend they aren't interested in me @ all. I have to move slowly to make sure I'm not stepping on anyone as they escort me towards the pen. They do know where we're going. Then they wait while I open it up even though every single one of them has hopped over to get out in the first place! :lau They then line up to take the small jump to get back in & all my good girls wander up expectantly. Aoife & Alpia often come & join me @ the feed bin. Aoife has always been a very brave confident chook. Alpia just knows she is special & gets certain privileges! :D They get quite demanding if I've been absent & they think I haven't been spending enough time with them!
That's one of the things that I find so endearing. The way they rush to greet you.
Well, mine are probably hoping I have treats but let me have my fantasy....🤪

This is the way it is with any pets we have in our lives...it's always amazing the depth of attachment we can develop for them! I've mourned every pet I've lost & have been completely devastated by the hole some of those losses left in my life! All we can do is care for them to the best of our abilities! 💞
