Ribh's D'Coopage

I, too, enjoyed raising my chicks from tiny. They brought out the protective momma bear instinct in me, and I was the chicken helicopter mom from hell!
But they were so much fun. And when I look at them now and see how HUGE some of them are, it’s amazing. And gifting me with tasty breakfast every morning! It’s just awesome!
It’s funny, most of them don’t want me to touch them, but they gather around my legs and get underfoot. Apparently it’s perfectly okay for them to touch me! I have to be careful.
that's my big girls. :) The new lot scatter if I so much as look @ them wrong. :(

Well with so many chickateers around I guess I'm in good hands even if the chickens aren't. I know where to come for advice. First question: Are they big enough I can bribe them with mealworms yet? :hmm
I would say hold off because mealies I get are 20% fat and maybe one mealie is too much fat for a tiny liver to handle. But I'm hyper-vigilant about fatty liver disease right now.

That's what I was worried about MJ. I'm a briber with POLs. They simply can't resist a tasty mealworm. Chicks probably can't either but whether they should have them or not... :idunno

Have they laid their first eggs yet? I don't recall hearing about it but I've been struggling just to keep up lately so I might've missed it.
Well. I am grumpy this evening - brutal week at work.
I typed the above entry and thought grumpily "time they produced an egg"... ... ... Then I grumpily bundled up to go out to close the Princesses up for the night and set the mouse-traps and cameras ... ... ... ... And I grumpily stomped through the rain ... .... .... ... And I grumpily picked my way through the mud to get to the Chicken Palace ... ... ... ... ... And I grumpily checked the egg boxes ... ... ..... And ... ... ... ...

Mine showed no interest in treats until they were a couple of months at least. Then I went all out on the meal worm bribery so that they would associate me with 'goodness'.
The result is that now they peck at my ankles in case they are big meal worms!

Wow!! Well done little Princess! Couldn't have had better timing 🥰

These are the 6 I asked Natasha to hold for me: L~R A splash Japanese bantam; a silver laced Wyandotte frizzle; an Aracauna/Belgian X frizzle; a gold laced Wyandotte; a Belgian duccle frizzle & a Japanese bantam.

You may all now start praying for me ~ Shad excepted given his convictions. He can be on standbye for when I need sound, sane advice & a quick kick up the cabooshie because Natasha wasn't joking when she told me *young pullets* ! They're off heat but are still basically chicks. We had to stop @ the produce store [wonderful country people who understood my panic @ not knowing which brand of chick starter I needed & sorted it all out for me!] because they are all still on chick starter. 🙄 I've never had hens this young before! Panic button now hit but I'm prepared to give it a go!

@BY Bob! What did you do to me?!
