It has to be a control thing of some kind. She is exercising control over the flock. Maybe she has lost control over something else and is making herself feel better by exerting control in this fashion. What do you think?
Hmmm🤔 Interesting suggestion.
The only thing I can think of is that she hasn't laid an egg for about 10 months.

Is she at the bottom of the pecking order? Everybody in the flock demonstrated their displeasure with Sydney when she was broody by pecking at her. This is one of the reasons that I made certain I was there everyday when she got off the nest. I made certain that she was able to eat, drink, and dustbathe without the others chasing her. And I did need to step in and shoo the others away from her many times. Sansa and Lilly were both very unhappy with her for hatching.
I think she is second from the bottom with Edwina at the bottom. They usually hang out together when they are free ranging. I have been making sure she gets some food and water and she will also go for a short dust bath before she rushes back to the nesting box.

While she was out this morning I put a couple of fake eggs in the middle nesting box. She was very interested in them and switched to the middle box and tucked them under her chest.

In a few years time, if she is still getting broody and I need to get new flock members I might try slipping a couple of day old chicks under her at night.
