Part of the problem is I usually babysit them here & we have very few toys left. I tend to be very Waldorfian in my approach. Lots of tactile stuff. Lots of craft. Lots of outdoor play & movement. Parents pretty much the opposite. Lots of indoor. Lots of technology. Little creative play. If left without direction, even for short periods, they tend to become destructive so while we include them in any activity we're doing & give them jobs suited to their ability it puzzles me because I used to put our lot out the door & they found plenty to do & lots of creative play. Anything we do they tire of very quicklyDo they have any of those kids jigsaw puzzles in trays?
You could also play the memory game with items on a tea tray covered by a tea towel. They look at the items then you cover it up again, remove one item and let them look at the tray again to try and guess what's missing.
Items you could use: key, pebble, spoon, small toy, pencil, eraser, coin, postage stamp, toy ring, super ball, a jack or knucklebone. Anything small enough to fit on the tray really. Put fewer things on the tray for the two year old so she has a chance to "win". You could also secretly add something to the tray to see if they notice.
They can also help with housework (never too early to learn!). Dust, vacuum, fold clothes and wash up together. My kids enjoyed "washing up" while I wiped. Water went everywhere and the same couple of plastic cups got washed over and over again but kids love water.
Blowing bubbles. Here's a method for giant bubbles.

You can "paint" with plain water on the footpath or the side of the house with a paint brush and a bucket of water. Chalk is fun too.
Don't forget to make pillow forts with lounge cushions and blankets. This is a good place to have lunch followed by an afternoon nap.The dining table with a couple of big blankets hanging over the edges also makes a good cubby house, especially if there are some comfy pillows and blankies underneath too.
Nothing to forgive, Bob. I wasn't terribly clear & even I get muddled. I'd been out once to make sure everyone was up so she's lucky I heard her & realised she'd come downstairs again & couldn't get back. The way you integrate, one day and its over, I guess I got confused. Please forgive me.
She's eating up a storm but the lesions crusted one eye shut so she's been effectively almost blind for a week. Olivia had 1 eye crust shut too, which I found very worrying but Ceres has been brilliant with Desdemona. She takes her blind side when they get some outdoor time & keeps an eye on her. Desi isn't a terribly active bird @ the best of times but Olivia usually has plenty of sass & has been quiet & sleeping a lot but her eye is open this morning & she's blundering around the bathroom.Good girls. They learn fast.
How is Desdemona doing?
Agree 100%.Part of the problem is I usually babysit them here & we have very few toys left. I tend to be very Waldorfian in my approach. Lots of tactile stuff. Lots of craft. Anything we do they tire of very quicklyHonestly, I think technology should be completely banned for under 5's. It wires the brain in horrible ways.

Oh come on, admit it, you just want them as house-chickens. It is OK, you are not alone and I think if I had your chickens they would definitely be house-chickens!My indoor girls
