Ribh's D'Coopage

That sounds lovely RC.

I wonder if there is something you could move from place to place for them to use as emergency cover in the mean time? Maybe a big curved piece of hardware cloth with fabric over it to duck under if a hawk is near. 🤔

P.S. Have you contacted at your local plant society for shrub ideas?

I have a weeping mulberry that the chooks love to rest under.

Of course no-one was there when I took the photo.
Thank you ACM!
Temporary shade cover is a genius idea - maybe even something simple like a table and some chairs would do the trick?
Yes indeed, I am all over the native plant sites. The Missouri botanical society is actually the best site for natives around the US. Link below in case you are interested. https://www.missouribotanicalgarden.org/PlantFinder/PlantFinderDetails.aspx?taxonid=282738
I love your weeping mulberry! The native mulberry here is a good sized tree and I don't think has a weeping version (though is a great tree to find some space for in any case!) and the weeping versions are the Chinese natives (alba) which are considered by some to be invasive.
However, I had already thought about a weeping tree and was honing in on:
Tsuga canadensis (Sargent’s weeping hemlock).

Happy Caturday! It surely is at our house. Everyone is getting along splendidly.

Right before I took this photo, Éowyn was laying with Isabel in the sunlight. Of course she saw me and got up.

I am so blessed that Davis is who he is. This could not have gone better.

Thank you ACM!

Well, mine hide under the garden furniture too so I expect that would work. 😁

Thank you for the plant finder link. I'll have a browse later.

That hemlock looks nice and scratchy which may deter predators. (and I checked, Google tells me it's not poisonous 😁) Will you be getting one of the dwarf varieties? Will you get more than one and make a copse in the middle of the chook garden or a hedge around it or both?

I think I'm getting excited for your garden. :ya

Hi ladies. I feel like I haven't seen you in a while. :frow
Hi BYBob. I haven't even looked at your thread yet. I am 277 pages behind at the moment, so that's 2,770 posts. :th

The Hawkesbury Show is tomorrow so hopefully I will have time to catch up next week.:fl

I might even try posting a needle felting video.

Awwww! I am very excited for my garden too! The problem is it is a bit like chicken math - you start and you just keep adding!
Here are some of the other things on my 'must have' list.
  • Magnolia virginiana – they are interesting all year round and have multiple stems
  • Cornus florida - these are red and yellow twigged dogwoods - pretty in winter
  • Vibernum carlesii - a gorgeous fragrant vibernum
  • Blueberry bushes and maybe some other berry bush
Sorry if everyone else is bored but it seems ACM and I share an interest!
