Ah, ok. It's been a long time since I heard anyone mention Ogden Nash!Oh I loved the Ancient Mariner. We studied it at school I think. I used to remember great chunks of it. The only thing that comes to mind now is the imagery of the becalmed ship something about a painted ship upon a painted ocean.
Then I fell in love with Under Milk Wood.
As a teenager I loved a number of Paul Dehn’s anti nuclear war poems.
And for a giggle there is always Ogden Nash.
I am a big Shakespeare fan but weirdly have never read the sonnets.
So, as you can tell, I could very easily spend my afternoons sitting with the chickens reading poetry to them!
I won’t hog your thread but there is an Ogden Nash for every occasion!Ah, ok. It's been a long time since I heard anyone mention Ogden Nash!![]()
I love that poem.I won’t hog your thread but there is an Ogden Nash for every occasion!
At my retirement dinner earlier this month I read a poem as part of my speech. It is called Warning by Jenny Joseph. If you don’t know it find it on Google - I think you will be amused.
It is about aging and non conformity.
Oh YES! I know this one.I won’t hog your thread but there is an Ogden Nash for every occasion!

So it's ultimately a kindness to get started earlyAnd no~one who really knows me will be surprised @ what I do when I am old.![]()
Or the complete oppositeRapprochement is another one I recognise but don't really know. I think it has something to do with approaching someone or something in a hostile way.
"The term nebby, meaning meddlesome or nosy, literally derives from the word neb, or “nose,” a term that’s been around in English for more than a thousand years. Despite what you might guess, nebby is unrelated to the Yiddish word nebbish, meaning “a timid or ineffectual person.” This is part of a complete episode."Double points for knowing nebbish! That one's very obscure.
I'm with you, don't recall ever hearing that name.I had no idea about Tannoy ~ which everyone else seems to know.
Congratulations! One if the things I would like to do more of when I retire (in NINE days time!)
Well if you do they can't exactly make you go back to work for another day can they? The time difference will confuse me. Do I retire a day earlier in Australia? I think I do!
Wait, you had a retirement party and had to go back to work for the rest of the month? That just ain't right!!At my retirement dinner earlier this month
Was rappprochement on the list? I missed it. It is something about relationships between different parties - used about diplomacy between countries. Like when they agree to end a war and get on well together.Or the complete opposite

From Waywordradio. I remember the episode from last year.

Davis is adorable! What did Eyowyn think of them and why are they at your house? Or will I owe SHRA tax?I know it's not Caturday but my daughter's cats arrived Monday night. Davis set about welcoming them.

The munchkins were not certain about this giant cat. So Davis decided to put them at ease.

He is such friendly boy.
I think they are going to change Spooky's name to Chadwick. They are uncomfortable calling a black cat Spooky.
