QUESTION FOR THE SCIENCE LOT.
Can chickens suffer from asthma?
Luna has always gurgled as she breathes but lately it seems to be a little worse & really loud.
There is no nasal discharge. She is not unwell but her breathing is loud & noisy.

I will give this a go as I am lurking while my cheese scones finish baking.
I would say yes. I think birds can become sensitive (allergic) to dust and have asthma.
But, I suspect infection (viral, bacterial or fungal) is more common so I would keep a very close eye on her and the others for other symptoms.

I have always kept an eye on her but she has been like this since I brought her home. No~one else has ever displayed any symptoms whatever.

I have scoured my medical textbook and I can find no reference to Asthma in chickens anywhere. I do have some suggestions though.

It is possible that before you picked her up that she was in a very dusty environment. She could have gathered up enough dust in her respiratory pathway to create a permanent gurgle.

She could have gape worm.

She could be recovering from airsacculitis. Sometimes, airsacculitis will do enough damage to the airsacs in the bird that they will always have trouble breathing, and steroids (dexamethazone) are given in small doses to help the bird bring down the inflammation in the airsacs.

Is she shaking her head as if trying to clear her nose?

Thinking of you @Ribh

I have similar problems with Janet who has always shown symptoms of respiratory infection (remember when she had to have surgery to clear solid pus in her nasal area?) but the others have so far not caught it from her. They breathe easy.

I store things like rice, flour, oats in the freezer. I use a regular plastic storage container or pop it into a zip lock bag. You just have to make sure it's sealed but it stops the weevils.

I store nuts in the freezer to stop them from going rancid, as well as almond meal and excess seeds. Otherwise seeds, pulses and flours go in glass jars.
