Ribh's D'Coopage

Ribh it seems you are busy.
:cafTill you give us more info. Are you quarantining this beauty? If not… how is he doing?
No quarantine. He comes from the same owner as Leonard and half this flock is related to him. Shad will probably give me what for but I deemed the risks very low. He does have scaley leg mite ~ all the booted bantams had it when they arrived. I've got most of it under control though the vaseline is making a mess of everyone. He was dusted before joing the girls as I'm still battling stick flea ~ more vaseline. I've never had this before & it's a pain! 😒

Henry went in with the girls after dark last night. No fuss, no bother this morning. The girls seem quite happy to have him around though only Chavi has squatted for him & she made him work his socks off for the privilege! 🤣

Nice looking fella! How's he settling in?
Accepted well. He's still young, about 6 months but he has beautiful manners & has been tit-biting like mad all morning with little luck. The girls seem happy to have a man about the place again though chary of squatting for him as yet.

He won't. sometimes it just isn't practicable and sometimes if one knows the keeper the chicken is coming from it isn't necessary.
Proper quarantine isn't at all straightforward in many circumstances. I took rescues in in Catalonia without proper quarantine. Granted they were kept separate as in not being able to mix with the others for a while, but there is more to effective quarantine than this.

If I can encourage people to at least think about the risks of introducing new birds to an existing group I will have achieved something.

Nice looking chap.:love

I know the keeper very well. Her birds free range over 2 properties & apart from the leg mite are really healthy & super broody. Sisters are raising 3 chicks in the middle of winter just now & I have a sitter, though no fertile eggs.

I am leveling a space @ the top of the run for a broody hut & small run. It seems to be the only way to prevent Ha'penny from more murder & mayhem.

A little blurry but Henry in all his glory.
I didn't name him BTW.

Hanging with his girls. As you can see, it has gone well.
