So….. About 15 minutes ago, we noticed one of our rabbit “coops” was opened, and went looking for the 3 bunnies that escaped. We found 2, and OF COURSE, every single time, your favorite dies. He/she was “decapitated” By some random animal. Possibly an opossum/cat. Not eaten, just dead. I will put a pic down below. Just wanted to say goodby to him/her. About 3 months old, New Zealand mix. What was special about him/her was that, although not very tame, she had recently gotten “floppy“ ears, like a holland lop, and had a little white nose.

Anybody have any idea how the “coop“ was opened? It was closed last night. 100% sure. (Don’t have pics of the rabbit When dead).

Here he/she is:

Sorry to hear about your rabbit. Completely adorable.

Thank you. Just bugs me that your favorite animal is the one that always gets sick/dies.

Oh well. At Least it wasn’t very tame. I think if it was the tamest if the 3, I would be even sadder. But it’s ok, these thing happen.
It does happen, but it is still sad.
What kind of latch did your coop door have?
I'm thinking it might have been a raccoon.

I‘ll get a pic later, but it’s like this one here. We have 2, one on top, one on bottom. The bottom wasn’t latched, but since it rained, it was not possible to actually “lock”. The door literally got so stuck, that even we had a hard time opening it.

I'm so sorry for your loss.
That kind of lock is pretty easy for a raccoon to open. They have very good dexterity.
I'm just not sure a raccoon would kill a rabbit.
Does anyone know whether they would?
@Kiki do your know? Or, do you know, who would know?
(Sorry for that convoluted sentence.. I just read a Dr. Seuss book to a grandchild. 🤣)
