Anything that won't open on the first try usually gets opened with my pocket knife (coz the scissors are MIA.....as you guys have previously discussed) I'm a firm believer in Gibbs rule #9 so if my knife doesn't "fit" on a pair of pants I'll lose the pants before I leave home without my knife. If you pack a sturdy knife you can even open cans with it, but some of the people on this thread might not want to attempt it.
Bottles are another story entirely. I swear I spent 10 miles on the interstate last Sunday trying to get in to a bottle of Dr Pepper, and wouldn't you know I dropped it at one point (coz ya know driving WAS more important at the moment) so when I finally did get it open it fizzed up and leaked on me. I was on the way to work and it's always great to show up for work with stuff spilled on your clothes
but dangit I hadn't had any DrP all morning! I'm about as bad as you coffee drinkers (and yes I drink coffee when it's cool out in the morning, I usually buy the coffee in bags and use scissors....but gas station coffee will work fine if the scissors are missing)
One thing I miss, they used to have these can openers that punched holes in juice cans, rather than taking the top off. I remember them way back from daycare and elementary, when they fed us apple juice from big cans. Where can you buy one of those now????? Would be really dang handy for condensed milk ya know. I'm always using the regular can opener to just open a hole in one side and a vent in the other, but it doesn't work quite as well as the punch kind.
At least, Bennadryl (ok, the store brand of the same) can be purchased in regular bottles of tablets (think pink Ibuprofen) but ya gotta buy a gazillion of them and they will expire before I use them up, still sometimes it beats fighting with the blister packs. Now Advil cold and sinus, even the off brand of that comes in the foil blister packs!! GRRR Sometimes this also leads to me stabbing the foil with my knife rather than trying to peel it apart like you're "supposed" to.
I don't even use shrink/saran wrap due to childhood experiences.
My solution for most cheese and lunch mean is to destroy the original package on purpose and put it in tupperware or a ziplock. Chips are just impossible
