RIR and White Leghorn Cross

Mine are white and look more like the Leghorn. They are the same cross but opposite- my roo was the RIR not Leghorn, and my hens were Leghorns. I am anxious to see what color eggs they will lay.

I just bought 14 that are supposed to be RIR/White leghorn cross. They are a light gold color. I am just going by what the guy who sold them to me said they were.

tundra...you talking about the eggs or the chickens?

WJallen, you will have to certainly update this thread when they start to lay, and in 2 weeks hopefully I have some chickies of the cross to see if mine turn out the way yours did from the same cross!

well 14 of my 15 hatched, unfortunantly, the power was out 9 hours the day they started hatching and six of them died. So the 8 I have left are cute as buttons! White, with black flecks, and most have gold down at the neck and some have it other places as well..will post pics once I get them downloaded. WJALLEN, is the gold down what turned to be brown feathers on yours? I still LOVE your one that is brown with a white head and tail...
Did they start to lay yet?

mine are out of a rir roo and white leghorn hens and all of them grew to look like rir but lighter in color and some show a few white feathers or leak a buff color on the neck and some threw out their bodies

donnie, do you have any pictures?
To everyone else, I promise to try to download pics tonight... I did get some, and now am hoping to have time to download them all LOL. Did we agree this cross would NOT be able to be feather sexed? I'm asking because they're three days old today...

I have 5 white leghorns (egg farm battery hen rescues) and 2 production roos. I plan on incubating a bunch of RIRxWL in the springtime. Can't wait!

he dekalb amberlink is actually a breed made by crossing rir and white leghorns. they are mostly white with brown specks and some light cream colors. i have a few of them now but they are still young. they will lay brown eggs and are suppose to be excellent layers. i believe mt healthy hatchery sells them if you want to go to their site for a description. i got mine from a tractor supply, the temperment so far is identical to my rir.
