Hi,
I did not find this covered in any thread so I need new eyes. Found my Roo Brewster laying down bloody when I did not find him for the night count. Washed him up. The dark color on his comb was not blood I found out next day but discoloration from not breathing I quessed. Loud wheezing all day long non stop. Tetracyline for five days with two days left. Antibiotic ointment on the one head wound back of the comb.
He is drinking and eating although he has cut back alot. The comb looks almost like a frost bite injury to me. Black and shrivelled up.
Also, and most important how can I get him breathing besides the eucalyptus oil, vicks vapor, or four thieves oil in a steam bath. The first steam bath broke the heavy wheezing but now his breathing is shallow and labored with quieter wheezing. Maybe the discoloration is from blood loss.
Can anyone offer advice.
I also have given him 81 mg aspirin but not everyday, and chicken supplements in the water. If I knew what it was and how long it might last it would help but there are no chicken vets here that I know of. I can wait two days for the antibiotics to finish and then an oxygen tent? One more thing the other Roos wont leave him alone so he is in a roomy pen on his own, with some shade.
thank you
