Roost & poop board design

Looks great!
Roost height off board is fine for birds, just may affect how you plan to manage/clean the board.
Maybe make roost easily removable?

Is egg laying in the night common?
Short answer No.
It probably happens once a month in my flock of 24 hens.
You will find that your hens are done laying by high noon in a perfect world.
Egg laying though the night usually happens with a young flock and it is of no great concern.
I am in Canada high in the northern hemispehere when the days become shorter during the winter I find it occasionally happens again.

I do not provide any supplemental lighting.

Again it is still of no great concern.

Well, it is done. Tray is 1.5" deep interior, melamine with PVC trim sides, and slides out for easy removal.

I still need to slap a 3/4" sheet of ply over whole roof, to provide suggested overhangs, then move this outside and build attached run. But chicks may be sleeping in here before all of that is done. I can move them out to a temporary pen on days when I'm doing the remaining work, to minimize stress from construction noise.

They can get used to the commotion pretty quick......I actually think it's good for them, they get used to you being around and in the coop.
