My rooster was in a fight we believe with a fox quite a few days ago and we thought he only sustained injury to his left leg /side but we are seeing now that he is moving about that his left eye is draining clear, but he doesn't seem to have good vision in that eye. It also is sunken in a little. what can we do for it?? We are not ale at this time to take him to the vets. He is eating and drinking.

Hm.. I don't know. His eye symptoms don't seem like an injury, more like an infection. Could you send a picture??

He seems to have some crustiness around the eye area. I would put a warm saline compress on his eye for a few minutes and try to clean that away. You could use some soothing eye drops or an ointment, and see if it improves.

What type if eye drop ointment do I use? Just a lubricating drop

Oh my.. I think you should rub away the eye crust with a warm, wet, soft cloth, first and then see what you can do for him from there.

I agree with a warm wet compress or wash cloth held over the eye, and wipe away any crust or drainage. You can get Terramycin eye ointment or Vetericyn eye gel from a feed store, but plain Neosporin ointment can be used if you cannot get those.

His eye is still draining it looks like, but I think he is scratching it with his claw. How do you stop him from doing that so it can at least try to heal?? I get it a little healed looking and I can see the eye lid and slit. He still wont open it and then its covered again and swollen.

Do they make something I can use to stop him from reaching his eye but still be able to eat and drink??

My little silkie hen had the end of a feather stuck in her eye and it was very watery, sticky and sore, I don’t want to gone wrong advice as am fairly new to the chicken world, however I bathed her eye in warm tea, a mix of green and normal. Her eye is now totally healed and she’s back to normal. 1 treatment did the job. We use the same thing for the horses, dogs and humans in our family all with positive results.
