so i have rooser who is new to my flock (he is 13 months old, i was told) and i am just wondering when he will start doing his "job" such as staying with the hens-right now he sometimes stays in the pen while they roam and he has been going to bed about an hour before them, also fertilizing-i haven't seen any "action", will i? or can i just assume the eggs are fertile at some point? he has been with us for almost a week. thanks!

It may take a while for him to become one of the flock and I think that needs to happen before he is accepted by the hens. Right now they are most likely still picking on him. You will know when he feels secure enough to start jumping the hens. He will be chasing them all over the place. I have not gotten one at that age, only chicks from flock hens, so I don't know how long it will take. It often takes a couple weeks for a hen to adjust.
