Hi all this is my first rooster Stanley ...he is somewhere around 6 months ?? Lately I've noticed the back of his comb darkening .. kinda purplish . Is this normal?? I tried getting a good pic but it doesn't show up as good as if you see him in person.

In his case I think that it is a factor of increasing testosterone levels. He appears to be in excellent condition. Extreme darkness in an entire comb can be an indicator of circulatory or respiratory problems.

Thanks sourland.... he does seem fine otherwise and it does seem to come and go . We really just started noticing in the last week so that would make sense.

He is a handsome rooster! As far as I know he is perfectly fine. You don't want him having too dark of purple like @sourland had said before. Also... He may be frisky. When they get a bit... You know, hipper with the hens... They get a purple comb.

Gotcha yes he's definitely been friskier lately . He is the youngest out of all of them and my oldest hens haven't let him "dominate " them yet. I guess they caused him to have " blue comb " lol:lau
