FYI, our rooster had an eye infection for over a month. We clean it, flushed with microbial eye was put Terramycin on/in it, gave him Baytril antibiotic but it never got better. It also looked swollen. My wife saw a video on YouTube about a similar issue and it showed how to “express” the yellow puss looking substance by carefully pressing around the eye. It was a difficult task but felt he was loosing his eye, so…! We got some about the size of a small pea but could still see something yellow . She pushed more and what we thought was swelling was a large solid plug that finally popped out. It was gross and amazing at the same time! So far he seems better, “swelling” is down and he seems relieved. Found out it is called coryza, a respiratory disease. There are several videos on this. This is what we got out of his eye:

Good job!

Did your rooster have any other symptoms and a very bad odor about him?
(Coughing, sneezing, mucous from the nostrils, etc.)?

Infectious Coryza usually has more symptoms than just a swelling of the eye with pus.

While certain respiratory diseases can be fairly common, infection in the eye can be from a number of things. It may be Coryza, but he may have just gotten debris in his eye that caused infection too.

Here's some reading about poultry diseases: https://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/publication/ps044

Coryza is not the only thing that can cause pus in the eye. I think that is what Wyorp Rock was trying to get across. MG, another respiratory disease, is sometimes like that. Also, getting a foreign body, such as a seed pod or a peck wound, could cause pus to collect in the eye. Coryza has a very bad odor apparently, and other symptoms. It is treated with sulfa antibiotics usually. MG is treated with tylosin, denagard, and a few others. A picture of the eye and any other symptoms might help with a diagnosis.
