Rooster having trouble walking

my rooster just starting having trouble walking today. I don’t see any sign of bumblefoot. Do you think it’s just a sprain? What should I do?

Check him & his leg over really well. You didn't see bumble foot scab but is there a thorn or splinter? If he's eating/drinking/pooping ... Normal except for the limp, I'm thinking he sprained it. You could keep him isolated within the flock (crate or wire caged) during the day so he'd rest his leg, letting him join the flock at "roosting" time. Monitor him & if there are another symptoms, update us.

One thing I noticed is his legs look pretty scaly. I think he might have mites. I’ve found some on my other chickens recently.

It could be sprained like @ChickNanny13 posted above, I would also check out the legs, joints/feet (bottom of feet too), nails, etc. to see if there is injury, signs of bumblefoot, swelling, scaly leg mites, broken feathers, nails too long, etc. that may be causing him pain.
How old is he?

He is a little over a year old. I think he has mites. Could that make it hard to walk?

Scaly Leg Mites can make it difficult/painful to walk. He does have a few raised scales and I also see new feathers coming in which might be painful.
It will not hurt to give his feet a soaking, dry well, then apply an oil of your choice - vaseline, baby oil, coconut oil, etc.

Is he eating well? I would also get some B2(Riboflavin) into him - either use a poultry vitamin that has it or you can give him 1/2 tablet of B-Complex daily for 3 days.

He's not been fighting with another rooster has he? Just to make sure he's not been pecked in the head.

This is breaking my heart seeing him like this. I gave him a nice cold bath which he seemed to like. I put some more permethrin dust on him and rubbed coconut oil on his legs. He ate a couple worms but seems pretty lethargic. I can’t believe I didn’t see these mites until now.

This is what I do for a limping bird, have had a few.
If limp is really bothering them by inhibiting their normal activities too much, I will isolate them in a crate to 'force' rest for a day or two. Letting them out late in day, an hour before roost time, to give them a stretch and evaluate their mobility, then decide if they need another day and put them back in crate off roost after dark. Repeat stretch and eval the next day until they are better. Keep crate in coop so bird can remain 'with' the flock.

Best to put crate right in coop or run so bird is still 'with' the flock.
I like to use a fold-able wire dog crate (24"L x 18"W x 21"H) with smaller mesh(1x2) on bottom of crate under tray.
Then you can put tray underneath crate to better observe droppings without it being stepped in. If smaller mesh is carefully installed, tray can still be used inside crate.
