okay and maybe he is in with others is that a problem

Well, if he does have scaly leg, it can spread with close contact with other birds... 😬

Is this supposed to be a unique trait to Red Junglefowl? I've had cockerels and at least one pullet of different breeds do the same.

I'm not sure. First time owning them, & I've never had birds spur early.

Earliest I had spurs start, was about 4½ months.

Interesting. I've had some birds spur up super early, and several that didn't even start getting spurs until well over a year old. Gus, one of my silkied Cochin boys, suddenly has visible spurs this year that I at least didn't notice until recently and he's a few months past 2 years old.

4½ to 6 months is common around my place when it comes to spurs. The ones that took longest to grow spurs was my Black Sumatra, a couple Silkies & the Malays.
My old man Silkie took a good 7-8 years to actually grow one spur.
A Silkie bantam 2yrs, just starting to grow spurs.

The Black Sumatra still growing in his spurs. He's 2yrs old.

Malays took one year.

Yeah, it's my Old English that really spur up early, looking back through old pictures of them. I unfortunately don't have pictures from 9 weeks exactly because I tend to switch over to monthly pictures at 8 weeks old instead of the weekly pictures up until then, but the spur bump is a bit more visible at 8 weeks than at 7, and then definitely grown into little spurs in their next pictures at 12 weeks.

Most of the boys I raise are too fluffy to see spurs on them in pictures so I can't really tell when the other breeds I've raised start getting them by looking back at their younger months, unfortunately, but I'd say 4-6 months is a good estimate to when I start seeing actual spur growth on most of them. Most of my Cochins never get spurs, so Gussy's kind of a weirdo there. 🤭

My Brassy Back OEGBs are 10 weeks, with no visible budding of spurs yet.
The JungleFowl are the same age.

I think leg feathering inhibits spur growth most of the time. It seems to slow spur growth, or cancels it out completely.
