Rooster Went Nuts...Brutally Attacked Hen (MORE PHOTOS ADDED)

Well, Day 9 is done. The wound has been washed and recleaned and covered with more wonder powder. She spent more time out free ranging (under supervision of course) with the other girls...she's drinking, eating and basically acting normal again. Its great to see. And she was eating solid food outside with the others.

She'll be inside for a good while longer...at least until the wound is closed completely but she's gonna get more and more time with the others to keep her integrated. We brought one of the others in to sleep with her as she was crying for them when we brought her in.

Awesome and good thinking as to keep her intergrated with the others as much as possible. Sweet that you gave her a sleeping buddy!

Definitely...I will get updated wound photos. Its amazing how good it looks. Its one giant scab right now with a gap still missing on the very top of her head but its dry and clean.

Day 10: She had another good day. She spent about 1.5 hrs free ranging with the others under supervision yesterday. She's talkative again and we're keeping with the same routine while slowly switching her back over to 100% solid food while still supplementing it with scrambled eggs and other high-protein sources. Her poop looks great and the wound is healing. I will try to post updated wound photos tonight. She will soon be moved from the sunroom to our garage so she starts feathering out for winter. I dont want her to go from a 65 degree house to a 20 degree coop with no prep and that's what would happen if I keep her inside the house for the next 3+ weeks as winter is coming fast.

I'm optimistic that she'll make a 100% recovery at this point.

LOL...it gets down to -20 here in the winter. I've been to Georgia a couple times (I deployed through Ft. Benning when I was in the Army)....wicked hot there.

We love the heat, but this past summer was too much. Record heat almost daily and no rain to cool things down...not to mention the very high electric bills.

Okay, here are some pictures of the wound as of about 20 min ago:

This is from directly behind her obviously. It was all open wound down to where you see her feathers start again at the bottom of the photo. The wound also went down the left side of her neck (from this perspective) Now its all one big itchy scab for her. You can somewhat make out what was a flap of skin on the top left of her head. Its mainly healed up now...I expect it will scar oddly and she'll always have a tuft there now.

Here is a profile shot from her right side (when looking at her from behind obviously). The wound, if you'll recall, started right behind her comb and went all the way down. It was down to bone there and there's still a gap of missing skin. Its hard to make out as its covered with wonder powder in this shot. You can see the feather line and the wound was down to bone/muscle all the way to that line. The discoloration on her feathers is a combination of blu-kote and iodine wash. The blu-kote was from the first time he attacked her and just ripped some feathers out...the iodine wash was from the immediate first aid after the more serious attack. The wound looks dark but its actually the wonder powder over scabs at this point.

All in all, she's doing well.

For reference, this is the original photo:
