Rooster with respitatory infection

so basically my flock is doomed? I have 7 hens, does that mean I shouldn't ever add more to my flock? They are all acting fine, if they are going to show signs is there a time frame on how long before they do?

3 to 14 days is an expected time frame for diseases to incubate within a bird. You can add new birds but should never sell or give away a bird, live or dead. Be aware the new bird would go through the symptoms also when added or could possibly not show any sign at all.

Depends on what it is?? As a rule, no you should not introduce anymore birds....I manage my ILT Virus....
It can be today or a week from now that symptoms will start showing....

Well for some good news, he seems that he will make it. Was much better yesterday and even ate some bread. Now to decide what to do next. I don't have a place where I can keep him long term isolated so I guess I will have to take my chances that if the girls were infected he has already infected them and put him back with the flock once well.

Good news, the rooster made it through his respiratory infection. He was a very sick rooster. I gave him Tylan 50 shots for 7 days which was probably too much but he was bad. Right now he is still in the sick pen but he is doing much better. The only thing is he still has a rattle with his breathing but his eyes and nostrils have cleared up. I guess since my other hens were exposed I will put him back with the flock once he is completely better. So far all the rest of the flock are fine. I did have one hen that had a few bubbles in her eye and I immediately started her on Tylan and she is fine.

Hey I'm happy to hear that your rooster is doing well but did you use anything more besides tylan 50?

I used a little Vet RX on his nostrils and cone to help open up his breathing but that is it.

Well good luck! This has been quite the ordeal. He was so sick a week ago Tuesday that we almost put him down. You could hear him rattling 20 feet before you got to his cage. His eyes were matted shut and swollen. His cone was turning a black color and was limp on his head. Tons of gross, stinking discharge coming out of his mouth and nostrils. Started the shots on Tuesday and a couple of days later he was starting to perk up some. Each day I notice him a little better and yesterday was the first day that there wasn't any drainage. I can still hear a rattling but you have to listen real close. I think he is a miracle because he was so sick I really didn't think he would survive.

Good. Tylan 50 is typically a 5 to 7 day dosage. If his rattling does not improve I would start another course to make sure to clean all that infection out. Best wishes!
