One of my roosters is getting old and likes to spend his days taking dust baths and sitting on the same old tree branch the whole damn day. One of his ladies, the smallest but feistiest, decided that if he's not going to do the job she will. So she's taking care of things now. Including, well, you know, mating. She was one of those hens who could get broody by just looking at a golf ball and she raised her share of chicks but now she has other things to do. She still lays her eggs, but is not getting broody anymore. The rooster seems to be fine with all of it.
