Rooster's severely infected shanks! What should I do?

UPDATE:

I just talked with my father about taking Denice this Saturday. In our discussion, we went over the cost of taking him to the vet and where I was going to purchase the medication. My father suggested that I make a list of the medications, order them online, and seek out a local poultry expert in our area to treat Denice. So my father is willing to pay for EVERYTHING as long as I ''look for the help''.

And after the soak, I want you to cover his leg in antibiotic ointment, you should have this in the house...Bacitracin, Neosporin, something like that. Get down by the ugly parts good. The uglier looking, the more important to cover with that goo.

If you are going to order medicine online you should go to the first state vet supple link that was posted here. If you order enough medicine you can get the consultation free and the man can help you help the chicken. I think he is going to need some type of internal antibiotic since it has been there for a while.

First State Vet is excellent! Peter Brown definitely helped me out a lot in the past. I would also recommend that if there is a poultry association or club in your area you can contact them - they may know of other vets, local medicine suppliers, and may even have some members on hand who are also poultry experts. Not all poultry clubs are this on the ball, but some are, and it might be worth it to check, as part of your looking for help. And the internal antibiotic - I am totally in agreement on that. Help Denice's body heal the infection from within as well.

Good luck! We are pulling for you!!
