My barred rocks crow. Two of the three, anyway. But it is such a lovely sound and not so annoying as my dog that is currently barking at the local wildlife. Why people complain about crowing roosters and not barking dogs I'll never understand.

BTW, if you have more than one rooster in a flock, the submissive ones may not crow. If their status changes, they may suddenly find their voice.

I once had a standard white cochin roo that had a very muted crow, much to everyone's amusement whenever I showed him. One older man standing nearby remarked "I've got pigeons louder than that!".

We have some that won't crow they are so low on the list here but trust me when I sell one they find their voice.
The only roo that won't crow is the one you invite to dinner

Australorps are supposedly one of the "less vocal" breeds. I bought 8 chicks a few months back, of which 7 turned out to be roos. The biggest of the youngsters started learning to crow a month ago but I think only because I have an elder roo that the young one was trying to mimic. (Bricktop would crow, then Big Baby would - and that's how it still is, he only crows if the grown-up crows.) The rest of them don't make a sound. I acquired a bunch of white phoenixes yesterday (traded 3 boy aussies for 11 phoenixes) of which one is a roo; he is also silent. Now, whether that's a breed trait, a personality thing or a "location in the hierarchy" thing I can't tell you. If there are other roos in your neighbourhood, even a "less vocal" breed may find himself more inclined to crow; where I am, the neighbourhood roos like to chat in the mid-afternoon on clear, quiet days when they can hear each other!

I actually have a Barred Rock rooster that doesn't crow, Never has and he's 8mn old. his supposed sibling is the dominant rooster and crows all the time. I got the two of them and 3 red sex links together when they were 4 weeks old from someone local. He's a lot smaller than my dominant Barred Rock. We call him Road Runner d/t the sound he makes is "Beep Beep"

I have a red ranger rooster. He is now 21 weeks old and has never crowed, not even once. He goes around grumbling but no crow has ever came out of him.
