Roundworms

I noticed roundworms in one of my hens poop two days ago so treated all of them with Safeguard. Today I saw more roundworms in poop so I'm wondering if that is because the treatment is working? Would the disgusting worms be alive or dead when they come out?

Sounds like you have a heavy infestation if you are seeing worms in the poop. The Fenbendazole should be starting to work if you are giving the correct dosing.

To treat Roundworms Only - Safeguard dose is 0.23ml per pound of weight given orally once, then repeated in 10 days.


To treat most worms that poultry can have except for Tapeworm - Safeguard dose is 0.23ml per pound of weight given orally once a day for 5 days in a row.
---OR---
Valbazen dose is 0.08ml per pound of weight given orally once, then repeated in 10 days.

The excreted worms can be dead or alive when excreted. The live ones will die shortly after being excreted. Poultry worms cannot survive outside their host.

Welcome to BYC.
Since you saw worms, there's no need to see a vet which will cost you an arm and leg.
If you have a feed store or Tractor Supply store near you, Go there and look for Safeguard liquid goat wormer or Safeguard equine paste or Valbazen liquid cattle/sheep wormer. Purchase either one and dose your chickens accordingly. The dosages are in post #2 above. Make sure you worm all your birds.
