Haha! Some bury my fake eggs or kick them out with bedding. My leghorns get really loud before and after laying. They prefer to lay in the goat feeders instead of my nesting box. I feel bad for the goats because when they're trying to eat they get pecked on the nose. goofballs.
That's normal too. Suddenly pullets that were terrified of me start talking to me and following me around saying bawk, bawk, bawk. I know that first egg is close.Yay!! I hope starts laying soon! Is the sassy-ness normal too??![]()
Absolutely!! I call it the Raucous Cacophony. Also, is it normal for chickens to get much louder the closer they are to laying eggs? Because boy oh boy, can she belt it out.
Thanks for the link! I hope Goldie starts laying soon!Absolutely!! I call it the Raucous Cacophony.
All that noise and messing the nests is typical onset of lay behavior.

Don't be surprised if you get a couple duds. A few of my pullets produced thin shelled opaque eggs and some no shell at all... just a yoke on the poop deck. They sort themselves out. I switched from layer feed to flock raiser offering free choice oyster shells.
