Rubber band wrapped around leg of pigeon

I’ll be so powerful :lau
She looks mostly like a normal gray pigeon, but she has a big tail and a sort of upright posture.
I would like to help out a lost racing/homing pigeon, but I actually haven’t seen a confirmed one yet.

I did see the stumps right after the feet detached. Honestly, I hope Rubber band’s stump doesn’t turn out like that, it looked pretty bloody.
I do plan on wrapping Rubber band’s leg once that foot finally comes off.
Once again, thank you for sharing your firsthand experience and advice!
when I see upright standing pigeons I just think of this picture:

I wonder how many pigeons are in that trenchcoat. :p
Lost racing pigeons sometimes end up with wild flocks or in people’s yards. I just think it would be cool to help one out.
The patterns on those first two are some of my favorites. They’re so flamboyant!

Oh, it’s totally fine, I’m just waiting for my pigeon’s foot to fall off at this point, so it’s not really an emergency. I should make a general pigeon thread.
Wow! Just read this whole thread and will be watching. On this one part of my commute, I see two brown pigeons, two black-and-white-splotchy pigeons, and one white pigeon with a black tail. I say hi to them every day, though they aren't all always there so honestly there might be more of each variety but who knows :idunno
Sounds like a nice variety! I see gray (aka blue) ones and pied blues. I haven’t seen any browns/reds yet.
Yeah that ⬆️ probably should have left my pigeon stuff that doesn’t really matter lol for another thread
That’s okay, I love talking about pigeons (if you couldn’t tell :lau).

Pictures from today, a little over a month after I caught RB:View attachment 2889228View attachment 2889229View attachment 2889230View attachment 2889231View attachment 2889232I think the foot looks drier than it has before. The skin is flaking a bit around the area where the dead and live tissue connect.

Rubber band herself (or maybe himself, RB does display some male behaviors):View attachment 2889239View attachment 2889241
oh wow :0 I have never seen a dead foot on a bird before. Mostly because I usually see them with the little nub after its fallen off XD Are you going to throw the foot away when it does?

👀 Gee I wonder
Ooo I see. I hope you get the opportunity to help one!

Ah okie ajdhakdhaj feel free to tag me if you do so I can post pigeon meems instead of cluttering up your profile 😭

Wow! Those pictures are so interesting! Is the dead foot rigid? I can't really tell from the pictures, but in my mind, it's cold and stiff. It looks like it's close to detaching. Thank you for the pictures. That's a beautiful bird 😍 How do you tell the sex of them? Wait to see if they produce eggs or not? I'm sure it's painfully obvious that I have no experience with pigeons whatsoever, but they're gorgeous! I never see them where I live. The racing pigeons are so interesting in my opinion.

I probably would throw it away, but I have some weird family members that might want to keep it. :p If it’s not too gory, that is, I doubt anyone would want a bloody bird foot.

Yes, definitely cold and stiff. I don’t think RB feels the foot at all anymore, it’s just where the foot connects that hurts.
Pigeons are harder to sex than chickens, since you can’t go by feathering, and have to rely on behavior, a DNA test, or eggs. Male pigeons typically dance, coo, and puff up their crop, but female pigeons can too, so even behavior isn’t totally accurate. All four of my pigeons coo and do some degree of dancing, though none of them dance as well as my first pigeon, Neet Neet!
