Lightning lay stretched out on a rock, her sides rising and falling slowly as she slept. A shadow crossed over her, and she awoke.

"Why are you sleeping?" Senkah growled. Lightning whimpered, backing away. "Answer me!" Senkah snarled.

Elan trotted back to the dens, carrying a rabbit in his jaws. He saw Senkah, and rushed to Lightning's side. "What's going on?" He asked.
 
"This mouse brain was sleeping when I ordered a patrol!" Senkah snarled.

"Mother, please-"

"SHUT UP!" Senkah suddenly screeched, lunging for Lightning. Her jaws locked around Lightning's lame paw, and Lightning let out an immense scream. "I've just about had it with all you incompetent traitors! Your death will be a pleasure to me, a weight off my back, Lightning." She spat out her daughter's name as if it were poison.

"NO!" Elan howled, and leaped at Senkah. "Get away from her!!" He yelled, aiming at Senkah's scruff.
